Húngaros is a traditional biscuit sold in every bakery or coffee shop in Portugal. This is my gluten free recipe. Hope you all enjoy.

  • 200g of gluten-free flour
  • 100g of ground almond
  • 200g og butter
  • 85g of caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp of grated orange zest
  • 200g of dark chocolate

Put together the flour and the ground almond in a mixing bowl. Mix the butter and then add sugar, egg and orange zest until you have a smooth dough. Wrap with cling film and let it chill for 30 min.

Stretch the dough  and cut it in small round pieces or use cookie cutters, and then put them in a baking tray. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden, in a pre-heated oven to 180˚C. Let it cool.

To decorate, melt the chocolate in bain-marie. Let it cool slightly.

Dip one side of each cookie in the chocolate and place in a sheet of baking paper and leave the cookies there to set. Húngaros can be kept in the fridge for about a week. Enjoy them with a latte, hot chocolate or a cup of tea.
